: Structured Cabling : Premise Wiring : 568-b |
Benefits of Structured Cabling |
: Corporate ease of Moving : One common Cabling system : More Certified Contractors : Competition keeps prices down : Adds and changes are easy : Ease of Troubleshooting |
Vertical and Horizontal cabling |
: Star Topology : Distance (295ft) : Patch Cords (33ft total) |
Connect Configurations |
: T568B : T568A |
Fiber Backbone |
: Interduct : Over 295 ft : Extensive Transmission : RFI & EMI Attenuation : Aerial : Burial |
Routing of cable |
: Hubs & switches : Main distribution Closet (MDC) : Intermediate Distribution Closet (IDC) : Connect between MCI, IC, Jack & Hubs (Drawing) |
Wire Management |
: Patch cord Lengths proper size : Wire Managers between each Patch panel : High Density Horizontal &Vertical Managers |

: Labeling (Panels, Plates & Both ends of Cable) : Records : Reports : Project Certification : Drawings : Cabling Identification System : Color-coding Networks (Different Color Cabling) |
Technical Issues |
: Attenuation * : Crosstalk * : Return Loss : D.C. Resistance * Most Important |
Installation Practice |
: Stick with one configuration ( 568-B or 568-A) : All Hardware is same Rating (CAT 5e) : Patch cords cant exceed 33 ft total both ends : All runs must be over 33 ft and under 295ft : Min 5" from Florescent Lighting Ballasts : Min 4ft from transformers : Never run power cables with data with out proper separation : Cross Power cables at a 90-degree and try to keep 2" away if possible : Avoid heating ducts : No untwisting of pairs : No Splicing : Use Factory terminated Patch cords : Max 2" jacket stripping : Punch down no more that _" from last twist : Min bend radius, 4x Diameter of cable : Apply cable ties loosely / Prefer Velcro ties : Dont exceed 25 Lbs of pull / Avoid stretching cable : Dont use staple gun : Leave 10ft service loop at each end : Leave 12" service slack in wall plate : Avoid kinking cable : Min of two cat 5e cables at each plate : Patch panel / punch each 4 pr left to right start with solid blue : Install cable at 50 degrees and up : Terminate one conductor at a time. Do not use multi punch down tool (There are exceptions) make sure each conductor is cut through properly. |
